A little hindsight, and a MASSIVE THANK YOU!

So, I am going to keep this really brief.  Most of you will know that I am in Chicago and the lack of posts over the past weeks has been because I have been training hard for the Triathlon age group World Championships.

Triathlon finish at Buckingham Fountain
Chicago, what a fantastic venue for the World Triathlon Champs

Yesterday after my race I posted an apology on Twitter and Facebook as I was really unhappy with my performance.  Basically things went wrong in the swim, and I came out in the back 1/3rd of the field rather than in the top 1/3rd as I hoped.  From there as far as I was concerned it was race over.

Swim start...
Mistakes made that cost me my race as a result of a water fight 🙁

That said I didn’t give up, and pushed hard on the bike, and gave what I had on the run, so in reality I completed my objective.

What I want to say is massive THANK YOU to everyone who supported me.  I have had loads of messages from everyone before and after my race.  These have really picked me up.

The support on the run from the crowd was outstanding.  I must have been running OK as I was getting calls of support from many different nationalities.

Chicago cityscape for the run course
A flat run. constantly dodging people, but what a backdrop to the race…

I must also thank the guys at Secret Training and Core Telecom, without whom the trip would not have been possible!

I have learnt many lessons on my journey to the Worlds, and I hope to learn from them and improve to the European Championships in Lisbon next May.  I have lots to improve on.  That said, hindsight is a wonderful things and the scores on the doors were not too bad…

Swim: 85th out of the water

Bike: 36th fastest bike split in the age group, moving me to 40th in the age-group

Run: 25th fastest run split in the age group, moving me to finish 23rd of 127 finishers in the age group (based on provisional results).

Thus the results got me pretty close to my objective of a top 20 (my dream was a top 10!), and placed me as 3rd GB finisher (again meeting my goal).

Great finishers medal
Well, I finished! …..and thanks to everyone for their support 🙂

So hindsight is a wonderful thing.  The results were OK/good, but I was disappointed with my performance (maybe I need to read my own blog articles), more importantly I have loads of improvement to make, and objectives to set myself.

I hope to post a long blog over the next week or so with a full race report from the Worlds, and the training and racing that I have done over the past few weeks, but for today:

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT, IT REALLY HAS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE, AND IT HAS SPURRED ME ON WHEN THINGS WERE NOT GOING WELL.  I COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU.
